Today, January 6, 2012, our new inductee, Cole B. Yeager from Radnor, Pa. exhibited uncommon grit in two epic back-to-back matches and with 5-run last inning qualified for the HALL OF ORG. By way of background, after learning about the HALL OF ORG, on December 30, 2011, Cole arrived from the east coast determined to be an inductee and swore he would not leave San Diego until he was. Initially, Cole showed little promise of hitting the ball off the roof, much less scoring a run. Many who witnessed his ineptitude began to question how Cole could play lax at Yale (or any other sport.) However, day after day, Cole bravely and diligently competed at roof-golf, making minor, but critical adjustments. Then on his last day in San Diego, with the sun slowly setting, Cole played two matches which will not soon be forgotten. In his penultimate match, Cole's opponent jumped out to a 4-1 lead, then Cole had a 6-run inning - surely with that ORG, victory and induction was his. Yet in the last inning, Cole's opponent down 5-7 scored twice to even the match. All Cole needed was one run and an inductee he would be. Disaster struck - he bollarded instead and despite scoring 1 more run, he lost 7-6. Cole was visibly forlorn, yet, he was determined to play one more match,which would be his last before the sun sank. Again, his opponent jumped off to a 4-1 lead, which became a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the LAST inning. Most would have been utterly dispirited, but not Cole, who shouted that "big dawgs must eat" while driving his first ball into the ORG's left eye, tying the score at 6-6. Most would have been delirious with joy at such a tying ORG, but Cole remained composed, knowing that his work was not yet finished, and sweetly struck his next ball which landed in the center of the yellow hoop - a walk-off single. Now that his mission has been accomplished, Cole leaves early tomorrow morning for New Haven. If you see him there, please enthusiastically congratulate our newest inductee. Few have come so far so fast.
